Pre-Draft Public Consultation - June 2024
Sligo County Council invites you to help shape the Draft County Sligo Biodiversity Action Plan 2024 - 2030.
Local Authorities play a key role in biodiversity conservation at a local level. The purpose of the Local Authority Biodiversity Action Plan is to:
- Provide a structured approach to biodiversity conservation in the county
- Develop the objectives and actions needed to protect and enhance biodiversity
- Identify strategies to tackle biodiversity loss and degradation
- Inform the work of the County Sligo Biodiversity Officer at a local level
- Integrate local, national and international biodiversity commitments and priorities
We wish to hear your views on nature, biodiversity and natural heritage. Your feedback in this consultation will be used to develop the biodiversity priorities for County Sligo and the actions necessary to achieve them.
Submissions are welcome from individuals, businesses, agencies, groups and organisations.
A further public engagement process will take place once a draft action plan has been prepared.
The Sligo Biodiversity Action Plan Discussion paper outlines the biodiversity of County Sligo and the Biodiversity Action Plan process.

Public information and consultation sessions:
By attending one of the online or in-person pre-draft information and consultation sessions.
Written submissions
By email – sending submissions to biodiversity@sligococo.ie
By post – addressing submissions to Ruth Hanniffy, Biodiversity Officer, Sligo County Council, Heritage Office, Sligo County Council, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, F91 PP44.
All submissions by email or post shall be clearly marked ‘Pre-draft submission - County Sligo Biodiversity Plan 2024 - 2030’.
