ACTIVE TRAVEL SCHEME

Sligo County Council in exercise of the powers conferred on it under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 hereby gives notice that it has prepared a Scheme for the provision of Active Travel Scheme at the following location:


St. Johns National School, Sligo Town – As part of the Safe Routes to School Programme, the National transport Authority in conjunction with the Active Travel Section of Sligo County Council have proposed measures to improve road safety along the front of the school zone at St. Johns NS on the R287 Temple Street, Sligo. The Proposed Project is a road works scheme which involves revising the existing road layout to reallocate road space and junction tightening. As part of the upgrade works, there will be new kerb lines to facilitate widened footways and narrow the carriageway, installation of 2 No. ramped controlled pedestrian crossings along with a table top.

Plans and particulars of the Scheme are shown on Drawing Numbers SCC-AT-STSP-001-00 to SCC-AT-STSP-001-08. These drawing are available to view on Sligo County Council’s website: https://consult.sligococo.ie/ and a hard copy will be available for viewing at reception in County Hall, Riverside Sligo during office hours.

Representations in relation to the proposed Schemes may be made in writing to Sligo County Council, Active Travel Team, Road Design, Riverside,  through the following two options only:

Submissions must be received no later than 5.00 pm on Friday 20th March 2026.

NOTE:
All comments, including the names of those making comments, submitted to the Council in regard to this Traffic Calming Scheme will form part of the statutory report to be presented to the monthly meeting of Sligo County Council.
Accordingly, the statutory report will list the persons or bodies who made submissions or observations with respect to the proposed Traffic Calming Scheme in accordance with the regulations of the Road Traffic Act 1994.The submissions will also be included in the minutes of that meeting and consequently will appear on the Council’s Website. By making a submission the name of individual or bodies will appear on the statutory report and minutes of the meeting.
