Proposed Variation No. 2 of Sligo County Development Plan 2017-2023

Closed17 Feb, 2023, 6:00am - 17 Mar, 2023, 4:00pm

Primary tabs

Proposal to extend the duration of Sligo County Development Plan 2017-2023 by up to one year, to the end of July 2024

Sligo’s County Development Plan 2017-2023 was adopted in July 2017 and became operational four weeks later, in August 2017. Notice of statutory development plan review was issued four years after its adoption and statutory pre-draft consultation was carried out from July to September 2021.

Since the adoption of the current CDP in 2017, exceptional events such as the Covid-19 pandemic have caused unprecedented disruption in society, resulting in negative impacts on the review of the development plan and the preparation of a new Draft Sligo CDP.

The current CDP is due to expire in July 2023. In order to allow for the preparation of the new CDP to be completed in 2024, it will be necessary to extend the life of the current CDP by up to 12 months, until July 2024.

Such extension will ensure that the zoning and development objectives of the CDP remain in force until the new Plan is adopted.

The Planning Authority proposes to extend the duration of the Sligo County Development Plan 2017-2023 by up to one year under the provisions of Section 11D of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended (modification to operation of sections 11 and 11B of Act of 2000 having regard to Covid-19 disruption). This may be achieved by means of a Development Plan Variation (Variation No. 2).

Environmental Screening Reports

The proposal to extend the Plan’s duration has been screened for the need to undertake Strategic Environmental Assessment, in consultation with prescribed environmental authorities. It has been determined that the proposed variation would not be likely to have significant effects on the environment.

The proposal has also been screened for the need to carry out Appropriate Assessment (Stage 2). It has been determined that the proposed variation would not give rise to any effects on the ecological integrity of any European Sites, alone or in combination with other plans, programmes or projects.
