PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT ACT 2000 (as amended) – Part XI
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS 2001 (as amended) - Part 8

 

Notice is hereby given that Sligo County Council proposes to carry out refurbishment works to Ballymote Courthouse and Dispensary at Teeling Street, Ballymote, Co. Sligo including the following:

  • Restoration of the Dispensary for use as a social history museum;
  • Restoration and extension of the Courthouse building to accommodate Ballymote Community Library services;
  • Demolition of the adjacent derelict house to facilitate an extension to the Courthouse building incorporating a new wheelchair-accessible library entrance, stairs, lift, and ancillary facilities;
  • Landscaping and paving works to the public realm surrounding the Courthouse and Dispensary.

An Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment has been prepared in respect of the proposed development, given the status of the buildings as Protected Structures (RPS no.56 and 58). The proposed development is also located within the curtilage of RPS no.55 (wall mounted post box).

Sligo County Council has concluded, based on a preliminary examination, that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is not required. Any person may, within 4 weeks from the date of publication of this notice, apply to An Bord Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the development would be likely to have significant effects on the environment (i.e. requires an EIA). Art.120 (1)(b)(i).

Plans and full particulars of the proposed development will be available for inspection, or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy, online at consult.sligococo.ie or may be viewed during office hours at Sligo County Council, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo and Ballymote Library, Ballymote, Co. Sligo from 13th July 2026 to 10th Aug 2026 (both dates inclusive). 

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated, may be made online by registering on the consult.sligococo.ie portal or in writing and submitted to the undersigned not later than Monday 24th Aug 2026.

All submissions (including the names of those making submissions) received in relation to this consultation will be published on the consult.sligococo.ie portal and will form part of the statutorily required report to be presented at a meeting of the elected members. Accordingly, they will also be included in the minutes of that meeting and may appear in the public domain.
