TRAFFIC CALMING SCHEME

N59 Ballisodare Pedestrian Crossing - Road Safety Improvement Scheme

Municipal District of Sligo - Drumcliff

Sligo County Council in exercise of the powers conferred on it under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 and Section 46 of the Public Transport Regulation Act, 2009 hereby gives notice that it has prepared a Scheme for the provision of traffic calming measures at N59 Ballisodare Village.

Public Consultation

Sligo County Council are holding a Public Consultation for this traffic calming scheme which entails a proposed pedestrian crossing on the N59 in the centre of Ballisodare Village. The proposed Pedestrian Crossing is a Road Safety Improvement Scheme and is being developed by the Regional Design Office of Sligo County Council. With high levels of pedestrian activity near schools, shops and community facilities, the absence of a controlled crossing has been identified as a key safety concern. The proposed pedestrian crossing will enhance pedestrian safety, improve driver awareness, and encourage lower vehicle speeds through Ballisodare Village.

Public Consultation for the proposed scheme shall take place from Thursday 27th November 2025 to Thursday 18th December 2025. This consultation is being held online through a public consultation portal which will be accessible at the following website https://consult.sligococo.ie/browse. This portal will contain all the information that will be displayed at an in-person public consultation event scheduled to take place on Wednesday 10th December 2025. Submission of comments or observations can be made via the public consultation portal.
