Reason for the Draft Variation
Sligo County Council proposes to align its current County Development Plan with the “Housing Growth Requirements Guidelines”, which are ministerial guidelines issued in 2025 under Section 28 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended. To this end, it is proposed to amend the text and the Strategic Land Reserve policies of the CDP.
It is also proposed to rezone two sites on the basis of the Council’s determinations on foot of submissions received in relation to the Draft Residential Zoned Land Tax Map 2026.
Environmental reports
The Planning Authority has prepared a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Report and an Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Report in relation to the Draft Variation. The SEA and AA Screening Reports and the Planning Authority’s screening determinations can be inspected during office hours at City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, and can be viewed online or downloaded by clicking on the relevant file names on the right.
Public consultation on the Draft Variation No. 1
The Draft Variation No. 1 and accompanying screening reports and determinations can be inspected during office hours at City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, on the Council’s website (www.sligococo.ie/cdp) and on this Consultation Portal, for a period of 4 weeks, from 6 February to 6 March 2026.
How to make submissions
Written submissions or observations regarding the Draft Variation No.1 ONLY may be made by clicking on “Make a submission” (top right of this screen).
Although NOT recommended, submissions headed “Draft Variation No. 1 of Sligo CDP” may be e-mailed to cdp@sligococo.ie or posted to: Ms. Aisling Smyth, Administrative Officer, Planning Section, Sligo County Council, City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, F91 PP44
Please make your submission by one medium only, i.e. EITHER online OR in hard copy.
Written submissions on the Draft Variation No. 1 and the accompanying SEA and AA screening reports, made by 4 pm on 6 March 2026, will be taken into consideration before the making of the variation. Please note that submissions will be considered only if they relate to the Draft Variation or any of its elements.
Late submissions will not be taken into consideration.
Compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) - Submissions will be redacted, if necessary (to comply with GDPR), and made available for public viewing on the Council’s Consultation Portal within 10 working days of receipt. Any personal data provided will be treated as confidential, in accordance with data protection legislation. Please ensure that your submission does not contain vexatious, libelous or confidential information, including third-party personal data without consent.
